UNESCO Music Designation

Jake Wagner, UMKC Professor, will be coming to discuss the recent UNESCO Music Designation that Kansas City received from the United Nations. Kansas City was designated as a UNESCO Creative City of Music in 2017. As a member of the UNESCO Creative City Network, Kansas City is one of 180 cities around the world using culture and creativity to drive economic development. The designation has already increased Kansas City’s visibility for tourism and travel. Participation in the UCCN through collaboration with other cities is the main requirement of membership. Kansas City is the only US city recognized for music. Other US cities include Seattle and Iowa City of Literature, Austin for Media Arts, Tucson for Gastronomy, and Santa Fe for Crafts and Folk Arts.
