Changing of Leadership ceremony & Eye of an Immigrant Update

Komalpreet Kaur is a young community leader whose goal is to inspire, connect, and uplift her community. She was born and raised in Queens, New York and moved to Olathe, Kansas in 2017. Her parents immigrated from Punjab because of the Sikh Genocide. Whether it was immigrating to Queen and going through tremendous trauma or obtaining citizenship, an immigrant’s story is full of hardship, heartbreak, and adversity. Challenges like the language barrier, housing, transportation issues, medical services, the lack of employment opportunities, cultural differences, and prejudice are some of the many obstacles her parents faced. Komal’s parents worked hard to live their American Dream and it is her mission to give back to the country that gave them the ability to be strong individuals. She is the founder and president of Eye of An Immigrant. Eye of An Immigrant works to uplift and unite immigrants in the United States by storytelling, providing resource assistance and financial assistance. Eye of An Immigrant aims to help immigrant families overcome cultural barriers to achieve their American dream.

Komal graduated from Olathe East High School in 2022. She will attend the University of Kansas in the honors program and Legal Education Accelerated program. Komal plans on majoring in Political Science with a double minor in business and policy. Through the legal program, she will complete her undergraduate in three years and go to law school after.

Komal currently interns at the City of Olathe in the City Manager’s Office. She has been with the city for a year and will conclude her internship in July of 2022.

In her free time, Komal loves cooking with her parents and helping her brother on his project car. Currently they are working on an Audi and a motorcycle.
