Economic Development Incentives: "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly"

Greg Musil is a native Kansan, raised on a farm near Frankfort in northeast Kansas, where his brother continues the farming tradition. He graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 1980, and from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1983. Following law school, Greg served on Capitol Hill for four years as the legislative assistant to United States Senator Nancy Kassebaum Baker (R-Kansas). In 1987, Greg entered the private practice of law with the Overland Park, Kansas office of Shughart, Thomson & Kilroy, P.C. He has practiced in the areas of land use and real estate development, commercial and business litigation, and property taxation and since 2014 has been a partner with Rouse Frets White Goss Gentile Rhodes, P.C. Greg served on the Overland Park City Council, serving from 1993 to 2001, including as Council President in 1999 and 2000. In 2011 he was elected to the Johnson County Community College Board of Trustees and served three terms, leaving office in January 2024. He also served as the co-chair of the Forward OP visioning Steering Committee (2017- 2019, and has been an active member of the Overland Park Rotary Club since 1993. He chaired the Club’s 2008 Star Spangled Spectacular. Greg has two beautiful, smart, and energetic daughters who live in Johnson County, Elizabeth Musil, M.D. (a pediatrician with Olathe Health Pediatrics) and Madeline Tarry, L.M.S.W. (a behavioral health specialist with Marillac). All are members of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection and try hard to count their blessings daily.
