How Will Banking Change in the Next 5 Years

A leader in the Kansas City and Midwest Community Banking industry for over 44 years. Mark had humble beginnings starting his career right out of high school at the age of 18 years. His first job included, picking up the mail each morning at the Kansas City Central Post Office on Pershing.

“As I stood looking around the bank on my first day of employment, I watched customers come and go, bankers and customers conversing and taking care of business, and there was an energy and while I had no idea of what was really going on, I knew this was what I wanted to do.  Forty-Four years later, I am still passionate about Community Banking, and I still love the business.”

Hard work, night classes, an eagerness to learn helped Mark climb the proverbial ladder and he was soon a Vice President in Commercial Lending at the age of 24 and went on to be President and CEO of Hillcrest Bank at the age of 32.

Mark joined Equity Bank in 2010 via the merger with First Community Bank.  In his current position with Equity Bank, Mark is CEO of Metro Banks and manages over $1.8 billion in assets which includes the metro markets of Wichita, Kansas City, Tulsa, Topeka, and Salina.  He is responsible for approximately two hundred employees and serves as Executive Vice President in a corporate capacity for the $5 billion asset Bank. In addition, Mark serves as Chairman of the Metro Regional Loan Committee, and serves on the ALCO, CRA and Compliance, Deposit Pricing, and Product Management Committees.

The 63 year-old was born in Independence Kansas but grew up in Odessa Mo. Mark has been married for 38 years to Julie, and they have two adult sons, Tyler in Kansas City and Bryan in Occidental CA.  Mark enjoys reading, gardening, occasional golfing, and walking. Mark and his wife are dog lovers and enjoy anytime spent with their dog, Duke a rescued Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix.  Mark is a loyal, 37-year Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holder as well as a Royals fan and takes great pride in being a Kansas Citian.

And I am a Rotarian!
